As a child, Cher Finver had to move across the country, and was forced to hide. As
an adult, she's dealt with tremendous loss and the realization that her life had been
a lie.

In her memoir, Cher also writes about being abandoned, her family history of addiction and mental illness, as well as her own fragile health. This is an honest and raw story of betrayal, heartbreak,
resilience, and love.

Cher did an amazing job writing about some of the most difficult topics she has dealt with in life. Cher does a great job of illustrating how to be strong and persevere through tough times in life. She kept me intrigued on what was going to happen next. I laughed, and cried throughout the book. I honestly could not put this book down.

But You Look So Good and Other Lies A Memoir Cher Finver 9781495814112 Books Reviews

Memoirs can sometimes be depressing, full of regret, pain, and disappointment. However, Cher Finver's book is not your typical memoir. It is delightfully written with acute perception, insight, hindsight, and compassion. It's conversational style includes letters and text messages which provide different points of view (unusual in a memoir). The author reveals her emotional fragility when honestly describing her flaws and foibles as a teen, young wife, mother and widow. We go on a roller coaster ride of her life as she experiences her most challenging moments and seemingly insurmountable obstacles that have made her who she is. She is strikingly straightforward when describing the choices she has made and their ensuing consequences, and about her complex, contentious, and sometimes irreconcilable relationships with some family members including her mother.
Instead of pretending that all the bad stuff didn't happen, she analyzes the turning points in her life, while you may not always agree with her choices, you will certainly cheer her for her determination to ameliorate her situation. You might also recognize aspects of yourself, family members, or both!
Seeing her for the first time, you would not be aware that she has multiple sclerosis; she refuses to let it define her. Her wit, exuberance, and sparkling personality belie the devastating heartbreaks she has endured. At the midpoint of her life, she is not only at peace but also extremely happy.
I highly recommend this sassy, inspirational, and triumphant account of a remarkably resilient and brave person.
Definitely a memoir worth reading! Everything in this book just makes you want to keep reading. Cher talks about all of the brave and tough choices she has had to make throughout her life and the ups and downs that have occurred. This book shows that life isn't always perfect, but that's okay because in the end you turn out stronger than you ever were. I was so excited to read it, and when I did, I was not disappointed and would gladly read it again.
I've known Cher since high school, but didn't know how deep her struggles went until reading this raw, honest, and jaw dropping rendition of her life and the myriad of obstacles she had to overcome. I'm so proud of not only the woman she's become, but the loving, caring mom she is to her gorgeous daughter. I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. It felt like a slumber party sharing intimate secrets with a friend. Cher has a loving heart and generous spirit. She is currently an ambassador for MS, and her gift to that community is priceless. It's a great summer beach book and a glimpse into tragedy and sadness, tempered by a resilient spirit that won't put up with BS, and loves despite the pain. God blessed her with a beautiful daughter and devoted husband. A+ my friend.
This book was ordered in error, but for the $4.93 it cost me, it was not worth the return shipment. I elected to spend a couple of hours reading it and found it to be a complete waste of my time.

This is a self-published book, meaning the author paid to have it published rather than the publishing company paying her.

The reader is led to believe that the purpose of this book is to enlighten them with the trials and tribulations of having MS while dealing with other problems in her life. This couldn't be farther from the truth in my opinion. What the author basically conveyed was that she was an admitted promiscuous thief who supplied drugs to her husband that would ultimately contribute to his death. Additionally she goes on, ad nauseum, about people doing her wrong. This is a central theme of the book where after awhile you start to think that she is the one alienating these people. She seems to be the type of person that lights a bunch of fires and then wonders why she keeps getting burned.

There are a few inconsistancies in this "book". For example the author writes in one part where her house is a complete and utter mess because she has had a few bad days or weeks. A few pages later she writes that she is a compulsive house cleaner when she is under stress. This leads one to believe that she is writing what sounds good to her rather than the truth.

I was in awe about what the author was willing to put out in front of the world to see. Whether it be the drug statements to the "skid-marked" underwear of hers that she discussed. I can just imagine the permanent damage she has caused herself and her daughter with her family. Apparently she has no shame or class.

MS is definately a bad hand to be dealt, but many, many other people have been dealt way worse. Most people just deal with it and go on with their lives.

In my opinion, the author has a "poor me" attitude which is just really depressing to read about. The book isn't worth it.
I absolutely devoured this book! It took me 2 days to read it (which is unheard of for me). Fabulous read! It is definitely inspiring with everything she has faced and conquered. Kudos to Cher for having the courage to release such private details! So many people will gain strength from this book.
Cher is my long lost cousin and I'm so happy to read her life story. Her dad is my godfather and my dad's best friend. When I was little I would always look at her picture and wonder why she wasn't home playing barbies with us.
She is truly an inspiration and has been through unimaginable turmoil
